Hi Ailsa, so sorry you have to deal with this. How did the appt go? I really feel for you.
I only found out two weeks ago that my eldest son was in hospital with alcoholic hepititis. I was shocked to say the least, I had no idea. He lives with his girlfriend, so we dont see him much.
I sincerely hope that your father realises in time how dangerous this can be, alcohllism is a very serious illness.

Oh Barbara - thankyou and I'm so sorry you have had to go through this too. I hope your son is ok and able to take advice and be well..

I went to the appt with Dad. It was very difficult to be in in a place like that with my 82 year old Dad. The initial assessment was done by a young girl who couldn't have known how hard it was for Dad to answer so many questions - is there warrant out for your arrest? Have you ever behaved in a threatening manner? Etc... Anyway, she said she was quite hopeful that he would respond well as he has not drunk for 2 weeks now and has set up a recovery appointment and suggested meeting he may like to attend. I'm not sure he will go though.

So it all seems to have settled again for the time being (long ma it continue!) Hope you are ok Barbara - I don't think we ever stop worrying about sons! My 3 boys have alcohol problems from their father and my dad so it really worries me. Take care xx Ailsa

Hi alisa

how devastating for you! I do feel for your dad in all this, but alisa you must have thought what could go wrong next!!

Pleased to read of the help that is going, there are addictions counsellors rather than attending a big centre with lots of people- there are individual appts at these places. I would think only drinking heavily for 4 mths is one issue that can be tackled but I wonder if he has been using alcohol on and off to prop things up and keep going.

Poor chap.

much love it really can happen to anyone I think if you are naturally inclined towards addiction and enough life pressure is applied

Glad the appointment went well.

I was interested to read your boys 'drinking to much'. I too have a 30 yr old who drinks
every day. drinking about 5 / 6 lit. every day. It worries me to death to what he is
doing to himself. . . . So I feel for you and Barbara and anyone else who worries the same as me.

glad the appointment went well, but i can imagine how you felt with your Dad having to answer such questions ... but i am pleased to hear he is doing well.

this must be re-assuring for you that he's on the right track.

Thankyou all so much for making this seem 'normal'! I really appreciate it.

I just re-read what I wrote about my 3 sons. What I MEANT was that alcohol problems are clearly on both sides of the family and I worry for them - not that they all 3 have alcohol problems now too. That really would have me over the edge and beyond!

Rose - I know how you're feeling. I suppose they will always worry us. I was determined not to be like this when I was a young Mum, but somewhere along the line, I seem to have turned into my own Mum and don't sleep properly till the front door closes the right number of times! Thankyou all forbeing so understanding XX Ailsa
